Sookie St. James

Sookie St. James (portrayed by Melissa McCarthy) is, next to Rory, the best friend of Lorelai. We get to know her as the chef of the Independence Inn and she eventually co-owns the Dragonfly Inn with Lorelai. She is often overly perfectionist with her food creations, and tends to create havoc in the kitchen when she is in top form. In season one Sookie goes on a date with the Inn's produce man, Jackson Melville. The two get into fights over food orders and other small things as they did before they began dating. Their first date begins awkwardly as a double date with Lorelai who is set up with Jackson's cousin Roon, but leads to a relationship between the two. They fall in love and get married in season two. During the show Sookie and her husband have two children, and another along the way at the end of season seven.
