Melissa McCarthy is an American actor and fashion designer.[1] McCarthy portrays Sookie St. James on Gilmore Girls.

Career[]

Following the conclusion of Gilmore Girls, McCarthy had various roles before landing a lead on CBS sitcom Mike & Molly in 2010, for which she won an Emmy.[2] McCarthy became a household name following the success of Paul Feig comedy Bridesmaids in 2011, for which she received an Academy Award nomination in 2012[3]. McCarthy has starred in various films, including This is 40, Identity Thief, The Boss and with Feig again on Spy (2015) and the all-female cast reboot of Ghostbusters (2016).

McCarthy is a proponent of body positivity, and has spoken out on numerous occasions against the vilification of women's bodies in the media and Western society.

In 2016, Forbes named her the world's second highest-paid actress in the world, with earnings of $33 million.
